Meetin' Place: Progress, Progress, Progress!

Meet Deborah. Her admiration of quilting throughout her life has progressed into a love of making quilts herself. While she has always admired handmade quilts, even from an early age, her personal quilting experiences started when her twin boys were about two. The neighbors started a craft/quilting club where they shared their beautiful full sized quilt creations with her. They each collected small pieces of fabric to encourage Deborah to start her own heart wall hanging. Lack of time merely slowed, but did not stop her progress.

In 1995, a friend invited her to the AAQB quilt show. She joined AAQB soon after the show.

Three years ago, Deborah joined "Sew and Tell", a small group of quilters at the Social Security Administration who meet once a week at the job site and once a month at a local quilt shop. Since joining the group, she has made 5 wall hangings, a T-shirt quilt, a mystery quilt and quilts for Brandon and Kyle, her sons. Well……. they are all "in progress".

The progress continues. Deborah, to date, has completed two quilts, including her first large quilt. It is a queen size sampler quilt using the quilt as you go method taught to her in a class instructed by Lois Smith. The quilt made its debut at the 2002 AAQB quilt show "Paintings in Stitches". Her bargello wall hanging made with her mentor's (Nancy Murdock's) hand-dyed fabrics also debuted at the show. Two done, nine in progress!

What is Deborah up to today? Since joining AAQB, Deborah has also joined two other area guilds to expand her quilting experiences. She continues to progress down the different avenues of quilting including crazy patch quilts, landscape, pieced and appliqué quilts.

What does the future hold? Along with the progression of her quilting skills, Deborah enjoys aerobics and biking in her free time. She is most proud that she has raised twin sons, Brandon and Kyle, now in their third year of college who are kind, smart, handsome and just plain wonderful young men. This should not be a surprise to any of the members of AAQB who enjoy Deborah's wonderful personality and contributions to the success of the guild.
